I need your help. The short version is that I want to know what you want to learn in 2025. Can you answer this short survey (there’s a reward if you do):
» What do you want to learn in 2025?
The Long Version
Ever since I left P&G in 2012, the vast majority of my income has come from being “on the road.” I fly into a city, stay the night in a hotel, deliver a keynote or workshop, then fly back home or on to the next event. And I love it, I really do.
But I don’t want to travel like I once did. As recently as 2022 I was away from home nearly 50% of the time. Back in 2016, I was on the road so much I put all my stuff in storage and just lived out of two carry-on bags for 18 straight months.
That’s not the lifestyle I want to have, not for me, my incredible wife, or my amazing daughter. So, while I’ll still continue to deliver roughly 20-25 keynotes a year, my goal is to build a business that 1) allows me to stay at home more and 2) helps me positively impact more people in markets I may never travel to.
Results from 2024
So this year, my goal was to earn $25,000 in what I call “stay-at-home” (SAH) revenue as a way to “test the waters.” And while there are still 25 days left in the year, I’m far short of that goal. How short?
So far this year I’ve earned $13,579.
What’s worse is that my net revenue from all SAH activities is actually -$27,871.
That’s right, I’ve lost over $27,000 trying to build out this part of my business. How?
Software costs for running my website and MightyNetworks community.
Hardware costs for improving my ability to record content.
Copywriting support for emails and landing pages.
Video production and editing costs for course and social media videos.
A bit of money on retargeting ads.
And lots invested in trying to learn about building an online business via coaches, courses, and subscriptions.
Needless to say, I’m not exactly the Steve Jobs of business over here.
So what’s my (business) problem?
The problem is marketing (and to some extent, sales). After chatting with a number of experts, consultants, and coaches, every single one of them has asked: “what problem do you actually solve?”
And that’s where I get caught up. Because I know that humor is capable of solving A LOT of problems and it’s hard for me to pick just one.
Should I teach people how to use humor to stand out and get ahead at work? Or is it better to focus on how it improves communication and confidence? Maybe people really want to learn about enjoying work more, or building better relationships. Do people just want to learn how to tell dad jokes?
Humor can do all of these things (and so much more). But most people don’t know that. So when I say I can teach you how to use humor, rather than focus on what it actually does for you, you (might) think, “that’s nice… so what?”
It’d be like if Stevie boy introduced the iPod as “a device to listen to country music, or rap music, or polka…” rather than the insanely clear: “1,000 songs in your pocket.”
What’s a coolish nerd to do?
Sadly, in today’s world, humor is often seen as a nice-to-have, or in some cases, as a not-to-have (at least at work). To the point that multiple experts suggested I shy away from talking about humor completely and focus just on teaching introverts how to communicate or nerds how to be more relatable (humor can help with both of those, btw).
That might be the quickest way to revenue, but I know how transformative the skill of humor can be. Not just because of my clients, but because of my own personal experience. I’m only where I am today because I was pushed into doing improv and stand-up comedy. It’s my mission to be that gentle push for other people to learn this incredible skill.
So this is where I could use your help.
I want to know: what are you most interested in learning in 2025? Please fill out the survey below (and a few bonus questions):
As a thank you, everyone who completes the survey will get my collection of 100 funny work jokes and one person will win a $50 giftcard. (Why only $50? I did already lose $27k this year…)
The results of the survey are going to inform what I write about here, post on social, and (yes) what I do for the SAH business next year. So what do you want to learn?

PS. Shout out to the hundreds of people who have bought a booklet, course, or coaching from me this year. Anyone who’s bought something from us in 2024 will be grandfathered (or grandmothered) in some way into what we build in 2025.
Hey Drew,
you teach soft skills, like I do. I gave aroubd 100 keynotes this year for a big EAP (employee assistance program) company. There must be sth similar where you live. Find them, see what they offer and have them book you. I did 95ish of those keynotes from home.
Greetings from Germany

Hi Andrew, got your email. I'm not filling out your survey, as info and support in humor is not my issue.
But I'd like to offer you something - a complimentary session to explore what you can do to generate income with humor.
I was a self-employed consultant, helping self-employed professionals attract clients for 40 years. I built a big list, sold a book that made a lot of money and generated enough money through consulting, coaching, and programs (with no travel) to retire comfortably.
I am not offering this session to sell you something. I don't do paid consulting or coaching anymore.
But your email triggered this response. If you'd like to talk, let me know! I can be reached at action@actionplan.com
Cheers, Robert
